Grief is a natural and difficult response to loss, and we are here to provide comfort, care and compassion for families, caregivers and community members who are anticipating or coping with the loss of a loved one.
There is no timeline to grief, and everyone experiences it in their own way. Grieving people deal with many emotions to include sadness, anxiety, guilt, anger and relief. Some people may also experience sleep disturbances, appetite changes, loss of concentration, forgetfulness and loneliness. Others may experience numbness, exhaustion and frequent crying. It is very important to know that with support you can get through the healing process.
Hospice & Home Care of Juneau provides bereavement support for grieving individuals, families and communities. Our services include:
Grief Counseling One-on-one counseling offers vital support to people coping with the effect of a life-limiting illness, death and grief. It also provides people with an opportunity to privately explore their feelings, understand their individual responses to grief, and empower themselves as they take steps toward healing.
Support Groups Talking with others who are also experiencing grief allows for emotional support and connection in a way that eases feelings of isolation. Support groups also impart helpful information and advice for dealing with grief, as well as hope for the future. There is healing in both giving and receiving. Others will help you better understand your outlook and approach while at the same time sharing your wisdom with them.
Remembrance Gatherings These cherished and comforting community annual gatherings honor loved ones who have passed away. People join together for a special candle lighting ceremony that includes music, readings and food to pay homage to those they continue to love.
