Valley Senior Center

The Valley Senior Center offers the following services:

• Congregate Meals at the Senior Center
• Health Promotion Activities (exercise, blood pressure checks, flu shots)
• Social & Cultural Activities (quilting, contract bridge, painting classes)
• Senior Information/Caregiver Resource Center

We are open for service Monday through Friday, 10:00 - 3:00 or whenever senior citizen volunteers are leading activities. 

Lunch is served at 11:30a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Valley Senior Center is located next to St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 9059 Atlin Drive off of Mendenhall Loop Road near Super Bear.

Meals on Wheels

Juneau’s Meals On Wheels offers:

• a hot, nutritious meal which meets 1/3 the recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals.
• delivered between 11a.m. and 1p.m. Monday through Friday by a friendly volunteer.
• a smile and daily social contact for homebound elders.
• a daily safety check for seniors living alone and referrals to other services.

This service is for any person age 60 or over who is homebound due to illness or disability and is unable to come to the senior center for lunch.

Each meal consists of:

• 3 ounces of meat or protein alternative.
• 2 half-cup servings of vegetables or fruits.
• 1 serving of whole grain or enriched bread or alternative
• 8 ounces of milk.
• 1 half-cup serving of a nutritious dessert.

All of the meals are low in fat, sugar, and salt. Sugar-free meals are available upon request.

Persons with difficulties chewing or swallowing may request Ensure in place of the regular meal.

Care-A-Van Transportation Service

Care-A-Van offers the following services:

• Door-to-Door Transportation
• Errand Service

Care-A-Van provides service Monday through Saturday, 7a.m. until 11:30p.m. and on Sunday, 9a.m. until 6p.m.

Care-A-Van provides transportation to persons with disabilities who are unable to ride the City bus and to anyone age 60 or older.

The reservations office is open Monday through Friday, 8a.m. to 4:30p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays & holidays 2p.m. - 4p.m.

 

It is recommended you call at least 24 hours before you will need the ride. You may make your ride reservations up to fourteen days in advance.

Care-A-Van takes passengers anywhere in Juneau they would like to go: to the doctor’s, to the store, to a friend’s house, to school, but it does not travel past the Ferry Terminal.

Our courteous drivers are certified in Defensive Driving and Passenger Assistance Techniques for the safety and comfort of our passengers. Our personalized transportation service includes lift-equipped vans for persons using wheelchairs.

Errands, which our drivers help with, include picking up prescriptions, dropping off mail and depositing checks - just to name a few.
