The Young Parent and Healthy Teen Center, co-located at the Zach Gordon Youth Center, serves teenagers from throughout the Juneau area with specific attention to those who are pregnant and or parenting. The Center is a safe space for teenagers to talk, release the pressure of the day and ask questions. Information is available about community resources, pregnancy, parenting skills, self-care, healthy relationships and other topics based on need.
Weekly, the Center hosts a Family Dinner and Game Night. This serves as a place for teenagers, their significant others and their children to come for a home-cooked meal, a fun game, and an opportunity to interact with their peers facing similar challenges.
Bi-weekly, teenagers can participate in T Time or Teen Talk Time, in which they can take part in a discussion group with their peers focusing on self-selected topics, such as dating, relationships and family.
Staff at the Center are available on an individual basis, for counseling about relationships, conflict resolution, goal setting, self esteem, job searches, references and referrals.
The Young Parent and Healthy Teen Center staff also has strong collaborative relationships with Yaakoosge Alternative High School and Juneau Douglas High School where they regularly partner in the facilitation of classes and workshops.
