Puddle Jumpers

Developmental Learning Center

Puddle Jumpers Developmental Learning Center provides a much-needed child care center in downtown Juneau.  The center provides accessible, quality child care to young parents attending Yaakoosge Daakahidi Alternative High School (YABAH) and Juneau-Douglas High School as well as other parents who are employed or working to achieve other educational goals downtown.  In addition to the resources of CCS, the project is possible because of the generous partnership with our community partners. Resurrection Lutheran Church hosts the center in the bottom level of its building and has made tremendous efforts in preparing the space. YABAH staff and students provided volunteer time and programmatic input.  Additionally, volunteers from Southeast Alaska Guidance Association’s (SAGA) YABAH program, the National Organization for Women, the Knights of Columbus and individual community members helped with everything from artwork and painting to construction and toys.

“Puddle Jumpers is a welcoming and engaging environment for young children and their parents, staffed by some of the most wonderful professionals in the field of early childhood,” according to John Norman, principal of YABAH. The Puddle Jumpers Developmental Learning Center is located at 740 W. 10th Street in Juneau, Alaska. We are a nonprofit child care center operated by Catholic Community Service. Our hours of operation are from 7:30AM until 5:30PM Monday through Friday.  For more information please call (907) 586-3786

Our Goals

Our goal at the Puddle Jumpers Developmental Learning Center is to provide quality programs and care for up to 30 children, ranging in ages from birth through 8 years. Our facility is a state licensed. We offer a well-balanced developmental program of planned activities. Our approach is to provide resources and opportunities for each child to explore individual interests. This approach is designed to provide intellectual stimulation as well as emotional and physical security for the children. We accomplish this by providing an atmosphere where there is respect for the individual, other people, and property. We offer the child experiences that promote warm, trusting and valued human relationships. Children are free to express themselves through many different mediums, such as dramatic play, language experience, stories, puppets, painting, music, and dance.
