“Foster a Future” Chalk Art Festival

Giving a traditional art form a Juneau twist!

May is National Foster Care Month. To celebrate and inform our community we are holding the “Foster a Future” Chalk Art Festival.

The history of chalk art- also known as street painting- has given artists around the world the opportunity to turn their talent into performance art. Now that opportunity comes to Juneau with an added bonus: the opportunity to bring awareness to the need for therapeutic foster care in our area.

The “Foster a Future” Chalk Art Festival invites people of all ages and skill levels to participate in this important community awareness event. They can work as an individual or in groups of up to three to create an original work of art. “Chalk artists” will line the halls of The Nugget Mall May 22nd and 23rd and the community is invited to come watch them at work.

At any given time over 2,000 Alaskan kids are in foster care and the need for safe homes always exceeds the availability. Help us bring our community together to help us support these special kids and be sure every one of them has a safe place to stay. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a foster family visit our foster parent information page.
