Individual and Group Skill Development Services

Individual skill development provides the child the opportunity to learn personal, life skills in a one-on-one situation with a Healthy Futures staff person. Group skill development provides the same opportunity, but involves more than one child working with a staff member.  The child and staff participate in activities in the home, community or academic setting, working on goals and objectives defined in the child’s Treatment Plan.  Goals and objectives include dealing with such issues as coping mechanisms, communication and problem solving skills, relationships, dealing with emotions, safety, family, and academic success.

Case Management

Case management is a service that coordinates individuals involved in the Healthy Futures Program with other services in the community.  Case managers set up treatment team meetings, work with the teams to develop treatment plans, oversee paperwork, link members of the team, provide recommendations for needed services and assure treatment occurs in an appropriate period of time. They are a support as well as an advocate for the child.

Individual Therapy

A Master’s level clinician provides individual therapy to children.  The clinician helps the child increase his/her coping skills by focusing on the goals and objectives set out in the treatment plan.

Family Therapy

A Master’s level clinician works with the therapeutic foster family and the foster child’s natural parents to address goals and objectives set out in the treatment plan.  If reunification is the plan, then natural parents may need to work on issues to remove barriers to reunification--issues such as parenting skills, child development, age appropriateness, anger, mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, and strategies for managing the child in the home.

Group Therapy

If appropriate and recommended in the treatment plan, the Master’s level clinician will work on goals and objectives set out for the therapeutic foster child in a group setting.

24-hour Emergency Response Plan

A Healthy Future Program is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, for crisis response and availability.  A simple phone call will result in clinical support and assistance in solving problems or issues.

Psychiatric Services

A Healthy Future Program has a psychiatrist on contract to assist children in psychiatric assessments, medication management when recommended, and psychiatric care.  As part of the program’s networking with other community agencies, psychiatric services from other agencies may be provided.
